The Railroad Station, which was built between 1890-1900, is located in an historic district of Staunton known as “The Wharf”, a reminder of the significant role the local river played in this Virginia town’s heritage. The depot has recently been restored and now functions as a restaurant. Just north of the restored building is a brick signal tower from 1884, which is currently the waiting room for the local Amtrak station. Old Order Mennonites, Pat’s inspiration during the years she lived in the Shenandoah Valley, can still be seen waiting to board the passenger trains.
